Description: Learning how to type is a foundational skill needed to efficiently operate in our technology era. In this class, you will practice typing daily, gradually seeing your typing speed increase over the weeks of practice. When you are not typing, you will be learning the basics of word processing, such as: cut; copy; paste; file management (saving then finding your work); citing electronic references correctly; printing; and other peripherals; and much more. This class will help you use many of the features of the Microsoft Word program, including: the spell check and thesaurus; how to change the font and size of the text; how to use tables and numbering; how to format a research paper and letter; how to insert pictures and web links; as well as, how to be operationally familiar with the tool bar.
In addition, the student will learn how to navigate and conduct general academic research using the web. Sites and concepts to be explored include: Google (calendars, e-mail, maps); web mail sites; web logs (blogs); and Wikipedia (not a citable educational source). Additionally, the student will be instructed re: Instant Messaging (IM) and social networks.
