About Us
Let me begin by thanking you for taking a moment to examine our program. This is the 30th year that the Summer Academic Enrichment Program (SAEP) has been in existence serving middle and high school students that live in the area that surrounds California State University, Northridge. Our goal is quite simple, we want the children who pass through our program to be better people for having come our way. We believe that children, because of their organic nature, are grown and we want to provide the optimal place for this to happen. Your child's growth will be by design, with academic and character being the two areas of focus. We also intend to instill a sense of hope and possibility in each student as they study and learn on a California State University campus.
The courses that make up our program are divided into three domains. For academic credit, your child can take academic or elective courses and for preparation or pleasure, they can take enrichment courses. Students and parents in the past have chosen to be a part of the SAEP in order to be in a nurturing classroom where they can take courses that allow them to progress in a sequence (such as our math, science and language classes), repeat a course they have already completed, or take courses that might not be offered at their regular school.
We hire California credentialed teachers to teach all our academic classes. For the enrichment classes, we hire credentialed teachers or bring in content specialists, who have demonstrated unique knowledge, experience, and teaching skills that add depth to the course. Please continue to browse our website and you will see samples of what has been accomplished this past year.
This year we are continuing to utilize the benefits of technology and have migrated all of our information to our website. You can register your child online, read course descriptions, see class syllabi, be aware of special events, etc. As last year, our faculty will be using a web-based grading program so that you can access your child's grades and correspond with teachers as frequently as you would like.
As with any program that strives to be better tomorrow than it was today, we use a variety of assessments to find out from students, parents, and teachers what we are doing well, what needs improvement, and what we can offer in the future to make the SAEP a better tool of service. Your input sent to saep@csun.edu would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for examining our program and we look forward to having your child join us on this journey.
